Sandpoint is a small resort type town located on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille and below Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort. Sandpoint is a small community of over 5,725 people with others living in the rural areas throughout the county.
Sandpoint has become known as an artist and cultural community with events and festivals throughout the year. Some of the events to look for are The Art Walk, Lost In The 50s, Arts and Crafts at the city beach and The Festival at Sandpoint featuring world famous musicians. There is a local farmers market featuring fresh produce and local crafts. The historic Panida Theater has live theater, dance, and music as well as movies throughout the year.
North Idaho is full of lakes, mountains, valleys, rivers and streams. State and federal land offer endless recreational opportunities. Wildlife are in abundance including deer, elk, moose, bears, cougars, water foul, grouse, wild turkey, and many types of fish.
Recreational opportunities include boating, fishing, water skiing, and swimming in the lakes. For the land lovers there is hiking and biking on Sandpoint Bikeways and forest trails. In the winter there is skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, sledding and good old snow ball fights.
